Wangchuk’s Wife Gitanjali Angmo Says Children Must Be Protected, Not Demonised

Gitanjali Angmo, wife of education reformer Sonam Wangchuk, has urged people not to associate the ongoing student protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar with incidents of violence without credible evidence. She said the students have continued their demonstration peacefully and responsibly. Through a post on X, she expressed concern over the way some sections of the media have portrayed the protesters. Angmo stressed that students deserve fair treatment and should not be judged without proof. She appealed for a balanced and responsible approach while reporting on the protests.

Gitanjali Angmo Appeals Against Linking Peaceful Protest to Violence

Calling herself an educator, Angmo said it was painful to see students’ reputations being damaged. She highlighted that those participating in the protest have shown patience, discipline, and restraint throughout the movement. According to her, many people who know the students can testify to their peaceful conduct. She questioned why society often doubts students instead of listening to their genuine concerns. Angmo urged authorities and the public to understand the issues raised by the protesters.

Angmo further stated that children and young students deserve protection rather than being portrayed as troublemakers. She said their voices should be heard instead of being overshadowed by narratives that serve vested interests. She encouraged people to focus on the concerns raised by the students rather than making unverified allegations. Her remarks came amid heightened political debate over the ongoing protests. She maintained that peaceful demonstrations should not be unfairly linked to unrelated incidents.

ABVP Calls for Dialogue and Institutional Reforms Over NEET Row

Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) extended its support to students protesting over the alleged NEET paper leak while strongly condemning violence during recent demonstrations. The student organisation said that genuine grievances must be addressed through dialogue, transparency, and institutional reforms. It expressed sympathy for both injured students and security personnel affected during the clashes. ABVP also urged all stakeholders to maintain peace while seeking solutions. The organisation said constructive engagement remains the best way forward.

ABVP reiterated that it has consistently opposed irregularities in competitive examinations, including NEET-UG. It claimed that it was among the first organisations to demand a central agency investigation into the alleged paper leak. The group also recalled organising protests outside the National Testing Agency headquarters to seek accountability. It called for strict action against those responsible for examination malpractice. The organisation maintained that student concerns should never become tools for political gain.
