In an unprecedented admission, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan acknowledged irregularities in this year’s NEET undergraduate exam, specifically pointing to errors in certain regions such as Bihar where a paper leak is under investigation. Pradhan announced the formation of a high-level committee to determine accountability within the National Testing Agency (NTA) and to review its operations.
At a press conference, Pradhan accepted “moral responsibility” for the diminished trust among youth and students. This marks a shift from his stance last week, when he had asserted there was no evidence of a paper leak and denied any corruption immediately after beginning his second term as Education Minister in the newly-formed NDA government.

Sources indicate that Bihar Police’s preliminary evidence suggests NEET irregularities confined to specific areas. Consequently, the government believes a nationwide retest may not be necessary. “We are considering holding a retest for candidates at the affected test centres,” a source said.

He emphasized that the government will not hesitate to take action against NTA officials, regardless of their position and seniority.
