In New Delhi, the Delhi Police raided a godown in outer Delhi and arrested a Delhi University graduate after seizing more than 5,000 pirated NCERT textbooks. Police officials said the accused stored the books, meant for students from Classes 1 to 12, for illegal sale in the market. Through this operation, the police dismantled a syndicate that distributed counterfeit educational material across the national capital and nearby areas.
The police identified the accused as Arvind Kumar and apprehended him during a Crime Branch raid in Shahbad Daulatpur village. Acting on specific intelligence inputs about the illegal storage and sale of pirated textbooks, the police team planned the operation and raided the location where the suspected consignment was kept.

Acting on a tip-off received on March 12, the police learned that someone had stored a large shipment of fake NCERT books inside a godown in Shahbad Daulatpur. NCERT Officials Confirm Books Were Counterfeit
During the search operation, the police discovered thousands of NCERT textbooks stacked inside the godown in both Hindi and English mediums. To verify the authenticity of the books, the police called officials from the National Council of Educational Research and Training to the spot. After examining the textbooks, the NCERT officials confirmed that the seized material was counterfeit.
After receiving confirmation, the police arrested the accused and seized a total of 5,011 pirated NCERT books from the godown. Authorities registered a case against him and launched a further investigation to identify and trace other members of the network involved in printing, storing, and distributing the fake textbooks.
According to an official statement by the Delhi Police, Arvind Kumar originally belongs to Bihar and moved to Delhi in 2003, where his father worked as a newspaper hawker. He completed his graduation from Hansraj College at Delhi University and later pursued a master’s degree through IGNOU. After failing to secure a government job through competitive examinations, he allegedly began selling pirated NCERT books in 2022. Police officials also stated that he is a repeat offender and had previously been booked in two similar cases related to the sale of counterfeit books.
