Delhi University to Consider Class 12 Marks for UG Admissions

Delhi University (DU) will utilize Class XII marks to fill any remaining vacant seats after the completion of regular admission rounds. Announced Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh on Thursday. This decision follows the University Grants Commission’s issuance of a standard operating procedure (SOP) for Central Universities to ensure all seats in undergraduate and postgraduate courses are filled. The UGC emphasized that leaving seats vacant for an entire academic year wastes resources and denies many students access to quality higher education.

Delhi University to Utilize Class XII Marks for Vacant UG Seats

Reacting to the directive, Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh told ANI, “We welcome the directive by UGC. We are equally sensitive to the fact that seats in any course should not remain vacant. We will use Class XII marks to fill the vacant seats in UG programs.” Last year, around 5,000 seats remained unfilled at DU despite the university employing multiple methods to address the issue. According to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by UGC, universities can conduct their entrance exams for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses if seats remain vacant after the regular admission rounds.

DU Ensures All Seats Will Be Filled Without Entrance Exam

When asked about holding an entrance exam to fill vacant seats, Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh stated. “We will not hold an entrance exam but will ensure all seats are filled in the university.” The admission process for the academic year 2024-25 is currently underway. Delhi University is offering over 71,000 seats across more than 65 colleges through the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG). The current admissions process began on May 28 with the first phase. During which approximately 270,000 students registered on the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal.

Phase Two Admission Process Delayed Due to CUET UG Result Postponement

The start of phase two of the admission process has been delayed due to the postponement of CUET UG results. The university plans to move forward quickly once the results are announced to ensure that all available seats are filled. According to UGC guidelines, CUET scores will remain the primary criterion for admissions to central universities. However, students who appeared for the CUET, even if they did not apply to the respective university for specific courses or programs earlier. May also be considered.
