CUET UG 2026: city Selection Window Opens Again

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has allotted preferred exam city to 96.6% of candidates registered for CUET UG 2026, with 79% securing their first choice. The agency handled a massive volume of applications efficiently. However, a small percentage of candidates did not receive their preferred locations. To address this, NTA has taken corrective steps.

NTA has reopened the city re-allocation window for candidates who were assigned centres outside their selected preferences. Eligible candidates can now log in to the official portal and choose from newly available vacant slots. The agency is offering this option on a first-come-first-serve basis. Candidates must act quickly to secure a suitable city.

CUET UG: Fresh chance to change exam city

The agency has advised candidates to carefully verify all details mentioned on their admit cards. This includes checking the exam city, centre, date, and shift timing. Candidates opting for re-allocation should complete the process without delay. Availability of slots will depend on real-time capacity.

This year, 15.68 lakh candidates registered for CUET UG, creating nearly 67.5 lakh test instances. On average, each candidate selected over four subjects, with a large number opting for five. The exam system recorded more than 12,900 unique subject combinations. NTA is conducting the exam across 35 shifts to manage this complexity.

NTA has also explained that high demand in certain regions, especially Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi, has impacted city allocation. When demand exceeds capacity, the agency assigns nearby alternative centres. It also considers infrastructure availability and staffing constraints. Recently identified vacant slots have allowed NTA to reopen the allocation window for affected candidates.
