NEET-UG 2024 results indicate no mass malpractice

On Monday, the court sought to determine whether it would be feasible to use. Data analytics to identify suspect cases and distinguish tainted students from untainted ones. Responding to this inquiry, the Centre informed the Supreme Court on Wednesday. That a data analytics review of the NEET-UG 2024 results by IIT-Madras found “no abnormality”. And indicated “neither any sign of mass malpractice nor a localized set of candidates benefitting leading to abnormal scores.”

In its affidavit, the Centre stated that the Department of Higher Education had requested IIT-Madras to undertake this analysis. IIT-Madras was also asked to use data analytics to identify any suspected cases of malpractice. And other red flags indicating any anomalies in the performance of top candidates. A set of parameters for this analysis was also devised.

IIT-Madras’ Comprehensive Evaluation of NEET-UG 2024 Data Shows No Abnormalities

The affidavit explained that IIT-Madras conducted an exhaustive and elaborate technical evaluation of the NEET-UG 2024 examination data using parameters such as marks distribution, city-wise and centre-wise rank distribution, and the spread of candidates across the marks range. The analysis found that “the marks distribution follows the bell-shaped curve that is typical of any large-scale examination, indicating no abnormality.”

Additionally, a city-wise and centre-wise analysis was conducted for two years (2023 and 2024) to identify any abnormal patterns. This analysis focused on the top 1.4 lakh ranks, considering that the total number of seats across the country is around 1.1 lakh. This granular analysis aimed to detect any abnormalities, such as a large number of students achieving high ranks (top 5%) due to malpractice or if students from a particular exam centre or city were disproportionately benefitting. The analysis concluded that there was no indication of mass malpractice or localized candidate advantage leading to abnormal scores.

The affidavit also noted an overall increase in marks obtained by students, specifically in the range of 550 to 720, which was observed across various cities and centres. This increase was attributed to a 25% reduction in syllabus. Furthermore, candidates achieving such high marks were spread across multiple cities and centres, indicating a very low likelihood of malpractice.
