Bihar model schools get new look as principals follow renaming and repainting orders

Bihar Model Schools: The Bihar government has started renaming all model schools across the State. It has also ordered schools to repaint their buildings. Every model school will now carry the name “Saraswati Vidya Niketan.” Officials have also asked schools to use the prescribed “sunrise” colour for exterior walls. Schools have already started the work. However, many principals have questioned the need for repainting newly renovated buildings.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced the decision in July. Soon after, schools began following the new instructions. Several schools had completed fresh painting only weeks earlier. Despite that, officials ordered another round of painting. School administrations immediately started the work. The Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation (BSIEDC) also issued detailed painting guidelines.

Schools repaint buildings despite fresh renovation

B.P. Inter School in Begusarai has already completed the repainting work. Workers also installed the new “Saraswati Vidya Niketan” signboard. Principal Kamini Kumari said the school had recently spent lakhs on fresh painting. The government later issued fresh instructions. The school then repainted the entire exterior. Around 50 workers completed the job before the Chief Minister’s visit. The school has nearly 2,900 students and 44 teachers.

Kamini Kumari said government employees must follow every official order. She added that principals cannot ignore departmental instructions. She also said the school had no choice but to repaint the building. The work finished within the given deadline.

Teachers raise concerns over spending priorities

Some teachers have questioned the government’s spending priorities. They believe schools need better educational facilities. One teacher said the government could have purchased more computers. He said students would benefit more from modern classrooms than fresh paint. However, he requested anonymity.

Senduari Model School in Vaishali also followed the new order. Principal Krishna Kant Roy recently painted the school sky blue. Later, officials directed him to repaint the building. He spent nearly ₹1 lakh on the new paint. He said the school would seek reimbursement from its development fund. BSIEDC has instructed every district to complete the work quickly. Bihar currently has 551 model schools across 38 districts. Officials say the renaming and repainting work is progressing across the State.
