Two Workers Rescued Alive After 9 Days in Nepal Floods, Renewing Hope for More Survivors

Devastating flash floods in Nepal’s Trishuli River valley have brought a ray of hope after rescue teams pulled two workers alive from a hydropower tunnel. The workers survived for nine days after the disaster struck the region on August 26. Authorities rescued them from the Upper Trishuli 3A Hydropower Station. The rescue has raised hopes that other missing workers could also remain alive inside the trapped tunnels.

Two Workers Found Alive After Nine Days

Rescue teams identified the survivors as Sanjay Sah, a mechanical foreman, and Kabir Maharjan, a mechanical supervisor. Officials from Nepal’s Energy Ministry confirmed that rescuers successfully brought both men out of the tunnel. The disaster had trapped several workers after floodwaters and debris entered the hydropower project area. Rescue teams are now continuing their search for people who may still be trapped underground.

The devastating floods followed the collapse of a glacier in the upper Trishuli River area. The disaster caused massive flooding and debris to rush through the valley, damaging infrastructure and trapping people inside tunnels. Officials believe the disaster affected tunnels connected to six hydropower projects along the river. Rescue authorities have intensified operations as families continue to wait for news about their missing relatives.

The rescued workers required immediate medical attention after spending nine days inside the tunnel. Officials said Maharjan suffered serious physical difficulties and could not move his hands and legs, while Sah sustained injuries that were not considered serious. Rescue teams transported both workers to Kathmandu for further treatment. Their survival has given families renewed hope that other trapped workers may also be rescued alive.
