Heavy monsoon showers have severely affected the hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, causing flash floods, rising water levels, and landslides. The adverse weather has disrupted normal life, blocked key routes, and stranded several tourists. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents and visitors to remain cautious as rainfall continues across the region.
Floods Disrupt Travel Across Hill Regions
In Himachal Pradesh, continuous rain since Tuesday has led to a sharp rise in water levels at the Jispa drain, around 100 km from Manali, creating flood-like conditions. Similar flooding was reported at the Jingjingbar drain, located about 15 km away. Officials have advised tourists to check the latest weather updates before planning any journey in the affected areas.
Despite the persistent rainfall, many travelers continued towards Leh, Ladakh, and Lahaul-Spiti through the Atal Tunnel. However, the weather department has forecast more rainfall in Lahaul-Spiti, prompting the administration to advise against unnecessary travel. Visitors have also been asked to remain alert and follow official instructions to ensure their safety.

Cloudbursts Cut Off Villages in Doda
Meanwhile, two cloudbursts struck Jammu & Kashmir’s Doda district on Wednesday, triggering flash floods and landslides that severely disrupted road connectivity. Several roads were blocked by debris, cutting off access to interior villages, particularly in the Bhalesha region. Officials stated that road restoration work will begin once weather conditions become favourable.
Rescue teams have been deployed in the affected areas, and the administration has issued advisories asking residents and tourists to avoid outdoor activities until conditions improve. Trekkers have also been urged to stay away from hilly routes during the ongoing rainfall. According to the weather department, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir are likely to experience continued rainfall over the next few days.
