Anant Ambani Donates ₹27.5 Crore Worth of Electric Buses for Tirumala’s Eco-Friendly Mission

Tirupati: Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries, strengthened the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) green mobility mission by donating 25 electric buses worth ₹27.5 crore. The donation became the largest one-time private contribution to TTD’s electrification programme and reinforced the temple body’s efforts to promote clean, sustainable transportation for millions of pilgrims visiting Tirumala every year.

Reliance Industries also committed to paying the salaries of 50 bus drivers and installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations inside the temple premises. Through this initiative, the company addressed two critical requirements of electric public transport—trained manpower and reliable charging infrastructure. TTD will use the buses, each costing around ₹1.1 crore, to expand its eco-friendly transport fleet and reduce carbon emissions across the temple town.

The latest contribution will help TTD improve transport services while reducing its dependence on conventional fuel-powered vehicles. Temple authorities expect the electric buses to provide cleaner, quieter and more efficient travel for devotees. The expanded fleet will also support TTD’s long-term goal of making Tirumala an environmentally responsible pilgrimage destination.

During his visit to the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, Anant Ambani followed traditional temple customs. He wore a simple white dhoti and a white shawl with a golden zari border before participating in the Suprabhata Seva. He later offered prayers to Lord Venkateswara and completed the customary mundan (tonsuring) ritual by donating his hair. Every year, millions of devotees perform the same ritual as an expression of faith and devotion.

Anant Ambani also announced plans to modernise the TTD goshala. He said Reliance would develop the facility by adopting the model used at Vantara, the company’s animal rescue and conservation centre in Gujarat. The project will improve animal healthcare, shelter, nutrition, veterinary facilities and overall management standards to ensure better care for the cows maintained by TTD.

TTD continues to expand its environmental initiatives with support from the Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) and the Andhra Pradesh government. The temple administration has accelerated plantation drives by planting native tree species, replacing invasive plants, promoting renewable energy, strengthening waste management systems and encouraging electric mobility throughout Tirumala.

Officials believe Anant Ambani’s contribution will speed up TTD’s transition to sustainable transport while encouraging greater private participation in environmental conservation projects. They expect the new electric buses, improved charging infrastructure and enhanced support services to reduce pollution, improve the pilgrimage experience and help transform Tirumala into one of India’s leading green pilgrimage destinations.
