“Proud Moment for the Nation”: PM Modi Hails ISRO’s GSLV-F17 Launch

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated ISRO after the successful GSLV-F17 launch from Sriharikota early Friday morning. The GSLV-F17 rocket lifted off successfully from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 2:55 a.m. IST. The launch carried EOS-05, an advanced Earth observation satellite developed for India’s growing space programme.

Modi described the successful mission as another outstanding achievement and a proud moment for India. He praised ISRO’s excellence, innovation, dedication, and expanding capabilities within India’s space sector today. Modi also highlighted the growing partnership between ISRO and Indian industries across the country’s space ecosystem. According to Modi, this partnership strengthens India’s space programme and expands national technological capabilities significantly. The EOS-05 satellite represents India’s first imaging satellite operating from a geosynchronous orbit. The satellite will provide advanced Earth imaging across several important observation and monitoring applications. ISRO successfully placed EOS-05 into its designated sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit following the rocket’s launch.

ISRO Officials Highlight Mission Success and EOS-05’s Advanced Capabilities

ISRO Chairman Dr. V Narayanan expressed satisfaction with the mission and its successful orbital injection. He said GSLV-F17 precisely delivered the advanced satellite into its intended orbit successfully. Mission Director Thomas Kurian called the achievement an important milestone for India’s GSLV programme. The mission marked the nineteenth flight of the GSLV launch vehicle since its operational introduction. Kurian said EOS-05 features advanced imaging capabilities and can provide near-real-time observations. He also confirmed EOS-05 became the heaviest satellite GSLV placed into a sub-GTO orbit. He credited extensive preparation and dedicated efforts from scientists, engineers, and supporting teams nationwide. EOS-05 will strengthen India’s Earth observation capabilities through continuous monitoring from approximately 36,000 kilometres above Earth.

The satellite will support imaging applications using visible, infrared, multispectral, and hyperspectral observation bands. The GSLV-F17 stands 51.7 metres tall and weighs approximately 420.5 tonnes during liftoff. Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh also welcomed the successful mission and praised India’s achievements. He said the mission further strengthens India’s position as a major global space power. Singh described EOS-05 as a state-of-the-art satellite supporting India’s advanced Earth observation requirements. The successful launch demonstrates India’s growing expertise, technological strength, and confidence within the global space community.
