Indian-Origin Teen Murders Mother, Brother In US Home, “Searched ‘Kill Family’ Fantasies”

An Indian-origin teenager faces murder charges after police found his mother and younger brother dead. Arjun Aravind, 17, lives in Acton, Massachusetts. Police arrested him after an overnight manhunt early Wednesday. Authorities allege that he attacked his family inside their home on Tuesday. He then fled in his mother’s Honda Accord.

Police identified the victims as 45-year-old Sudha Venkatesan and 14-year-old Siddarth Aravind. Both suffered fatal injuries inside the family’s Martha Lane home. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced the charges against Aravind. Acton Police Chief Douglas Sturniolo also addressed the case. The investigation remains ongoing.

Aravind attends Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, according to police. Authorities later located and arrested him after searching the area. The charges include two counts of murder and multiple assault charges. Police also accused him of using a vehicle without authority. They additionally charged him with motor vehicle theft.

According to investigators, Aravind allegedly searched online for violent material before the killings. Reports also mention searches involving “kill family” fantasies. However, investigators must establish the full context behind those searches. The evidence will likely form part of the ongoing investigation.
