IIT Jodhpur Launches BS in Management and Technology to Tackle AI Job Disruption

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur has launched a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Management and Technology to equip students for careers in an artificial intelligence-driven economy. The institute designed the interdisciplinary programme to meet the changing demands of the job market, where AI continues to reshape entry-level roles and increase demand for professionals with both technological expertise and management skills. The curriculum combines management education with technology while allowing students to explore their own academic interests under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Through this programme, IIT Jodhpur aims to develop graduates who can adapt to evolving industries, solve complex business challenges and lead organisations in an AI-powered world.

Students Seek Better Career Opportunities

IIT Jodhpur said discussions with applicants for the first batch showed that students now place greater importance on internships, placements and industry exposure. Most applicants asked about employment opportunities, career growth and long-term prospects, while parents focused on admission procedures and programme details. The institute believes these conversations reflect a growing demand for courses that combine practical learning with strong industry connections. Officials designed the programme to bridge the gap between classroom education and workplace expectations by offering multidisciplinary learning, industry-oriented training and skill development that matches future employment needs.

IIT Jodhpur has enrolled students from different academic backgrounds, highlighting the flexibility of the new programme. One engineering student joined to strengthen leadership and management skills, while a sociology student plans to combine behavioural sciences with technology and business education. Another student intends to use the knowledge gained from the programme to expand a family business instead of pursuing a conventional corporate career. The institute believes this diversity demonstrates how the curriculum supports multiple career goals and encourages students to apply technology and management skills across different sectors and industries.

Professor Avinash Kumar Agarwal, Director of IIT Jodhpur, said the institute developed the programme in response to rapid changes in the global job market caused by artificial intelligence. He emphasised that graduates now need a strong understanding of both technology and management to succeed in modern workplaces. According to him, professionals who combine technical knowledge with strategic decision-making will remain competitive as industries continue to evolve. The programme therefore focuses on building leadership, innovation, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills alongside technical competence.

IIT Jodhpur said the BS in Management and Technology aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020 by promoting multidisciplinary education, flexible learning pathways and outcome-based teaching. The institute combines management, technology and domain-specific knowledge into a single degree to prepare students for emerging roles across AI-driven industries. Officials believe the programme will help graduates remain competitive in a rapidly changing job market while giving them the flexibility to pursue careers in corporate organisations, entrepreneurship, research, startups or family businesses.
