Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, bandmate of late singer Zubeen Garg, accused Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma and festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta of poisoning him. Goswami alleged they conspired to cover up Garg’s death as accidental. He told investigators Sharma acted suspiciously before Garg’s death in Singapore. Sharma faces non-bailable charges including murder and criminal conspiracy. Goswami described Sharma’s unusual behaviour during their stay at Pan Pacific Hotel. His statements raised doubts about the official cause of death, intensifying the ongoing investigation.

Poisoning Allegation in Zubeen Garg’s Death
Goswami said Sharma forcibly took control of the yacht during the fatal trip, making it unstable and risking passengers’ safety. Sharma insisted on supplying all drinks himself, refusing others’ help. During Garg’s struggle for breath, Sharma shouted, “let him go.” Goswami highlighted that Garg was an expert swimmer who taught both him and Sharma. Therefore, drowning was unlikely. He claimed Sharma and Mahanta deliberately poisoned Garg, choosing Singapore to conceal their plan. Goswami also said Sharma ordered him to keep yacht videos secret.
Sharma and Mahanta denied poisoning allegations during interrogation. However, Goswami recounted Sharma dismissing Garg’s frothing as acid reflux and delaying medical help. He accused Sharma of neglecting Garg’s critical condition, contributing to his death. Sharma reportedly instructed Goswami to withhold evidence. These claims suggest active involvement in covering up the true cause of death. Investigators are verifying all witness statements and evidence while continuing their inquiry.

Financial Irregularities and Wider Probe
Investigators found documentary and financial evidence linking Sharma to the crime. Authorities suspect Mahanta of organised financial crimes and benami property acquisition. Assam Police’s CID uncovered over 20 years of alleged financial irregularities involving Mahanta during his earlier job at an NBFC. The Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax Department joined the probe, inspecting CID offices for case details. The investigation now covers both the suspicious death and associated financial misconduct by the accused.
Multiple agencies continue probing Garg’s death and related financial crimes. Assam Police, ED, and I-T Department coordinate to collect evidence and build a strong case. Officials focus on poisoning, conspiracy, and financial irregularities. Public and media demand justice for the cultural icon. Authorities expect to file charges after forensic and financial analyses conclude. They vow transparency and thorough investigation to ensure accountability. The case highlights the need for vigilance in the entertainment industry and legal oversight.
