In a tragic incident, an elderly couple was burnt alive after the family members of a newly married woman and their supporters allegedly torched their house following the suicide of the woman at Satti Chaura locality under the limits of Mutthiganj police station (Prayagraj) late on Monday night.
The deceased in-laws have been identified as Rajendra Kesarwani (64) and his wife Shobha Devi (62), residents of Satti Chaura.

Incidents Unfold Following Tragic Suicide of Anshika Kesarwani
DCP (city) Deepak Bhuker told TOI that the series of incidents started taking place when a 21-year-old woman identified as Anshika Kesarwani, ( wife of Anshu) committed suicide by hanging herself with ceiling at her house at Satti Chaura locality under the limits of Mutthiganj police station on Monday evening.
Following the suicide of the woman, her family members arrived at her husband and in-laws’ house and had exchanged heated arguments with the family members of husband.

Authorities Respond to Prayagraj Tragic Incident and Initiate Investigation
Meanwhile, the relatives of the woman purportedly set fire to her husband’s house, prompting the police to rescue five individuals by breaking the shutter. Upon receiving the alert, fire brigade teams were summoned and successfully extinguished the fire within a span of two hours.
After the incident, senior police officials along with forensic experts also inspected the spot and took stock of the situation.
Police said Anshika was married to Anshu Kesarwani in February 2023. Family members of woman told police that the husband and in-laws used to torture their daughter and as a result, she committed suicide. Further investigations are on.
