Sudha Murty files complaint alleging misuse of her name in connection with US events

Author and Infosys Foundation Chair Sudha Murty reported name misuse in two US events to Bengaluru Police. According to an Indian Express report, the Bengaluru Police have registered a case against two individuals, Lavanya and Shruthi. They face charges under IPC sections 419 and 420, along with IT Act sections 66(c) and 66(d). Sudha Murty’s complaint about her name being misused prompted these legal actions against the individuals involved.

A complaint provided a detailed account, revealing that Sudha Murty had originally received an invitation to attend the 50th anniversary celebration of Kannada Koota of Northern California (KKNC) on April 5, but she had declined the invitation. Her office informed the event organizers that she wouldn’t attend. However, on August 30, Murty discovered photos and videos from the event suggesting she was the chief guest. Upon inquiry, KKNC organizers mentioned that Lavanya had confirmed her attendance and posed as Murty’s personal assistant.

In a separate case, a woman named Shruthi collected $40 from individuals by falsely stating that Sudha Murty would be present at a US event. Murty’s office noticed an advertisement promoting a ‘meet-and-greet with Dr. Sudha Murty’ scheduled for September 26.

Appointment of Sudha Murty to NCERT Committee for Curriculum Approval

In a separate development, the NCERT appointed Sudha Murty in August this year as a member of a newly formed committee consisting of 19 members. Alongside Murty, the committee includes Dr. Bibek Debroy, Sanjeev Sanyal, and singer Shankar Mahadevan. This committee holds the responsibility of approving the curriculum, textbooks, and educational materials for students in classes 3 to 12.

The National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC), consisting of 19 members, will be led by MC Pant, who serves as the chancellor of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA). Manjul Bhargav, a mathematics professor at Princeton University, will serve as the committee’s co-chair.
