Crucial Evidence Missing in Sheena Bora Murder Trial

In a significant development in the high-profile Sheena Bora murder trial, a crucial piece of evidence has gone missing. The prosecution informed the court that the bones, which the CBI claims are Sheena Bora’s remains, are currently untraceable. Public Prosecutor CJ Nandode told the special CBI court in Mumbai that despite extensive searches, authorities could not locate the bones crucial for forensic analysis.

CBI and Defense Dispute Sheena Bora’s Remains

This missing evidence came to light during the testimony of Dr. Zeba Khan, a forensic expert from JJ Hospital. Dr. Khan had examined the bones in 2012 and confirmed they were human remains. Her examination played a key role in establishing the prosecution’s narrative. The trial had requested additional time to locate the bones earlier, and the defense did not oppose this request. However, after failing to find them, the prosecution proceeded with Dr. Khan’s testimony without presenting the bones as evidence. This move could potentially weaken the prosecution’s case, but the defense raised no objections.

The CBI alleges that in 2012, Sheena Bora’s mother, Indrani Mukerjea, along with her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamwar Rai, strangled Sheena. They allegedly transported the body to Pen village and burned it. The remains recovered in 2012 were sent to JJ Hospital for examination, but the case remained unsolved until 2015 when Rai’s arrest revealed the alleged murder. Subsequent discoveries in 2015 led to additional remains being sent to AIIMS, Delhi, for further examination. The CBI asserts that both sets of remains belong to Sheena Bora. However, Indrani Mukerjea’s lawyer, Ranjeet Sangle, disputes this claim, arguing that the remains from 2012 and 2015 are not from the same person.
