Kanpur Murder Case: Shalu Minocha Speaks After Release From Jail Over Vineet’s Death

Shalu Minocha has spoken publicly after spending 21 days in jail in connection with the murder of her father-in-law, Kanpur businessman Vineet Minocha. Vineet was found with his throat slit inside his flat in the Indira Nagar area of Kanpur on September 5. Police initially arrested Shalu after suspecting that she had planned the murder and allegedly hired two men to carry out the attack. However, the investigation later took a different turn. Police arrested her husband, Subrat Minocha, and accused him of planning his father’s murder and attempting to implicate Shalu in the case. After her release, Shalu told Aaj Tak that she had no knowledge of any plan to kill Vineet and said she never imagined that the strained relationship between her husband and his father would lead to such an incident.

Shalu Says She Noticed Nothing Unusual

Speaking after her court-ordered release, Shalu said she and Subrat had attended a party together on the day Vineet was killed. According to her, she did not notice anything suspicious in her husband’s behaviour at the time. Shalu described Subrat as a secretive person and acknowledged that he had a difficult relationship with his father. However, she said she never believed their differences could result in murder. She also said she did not speak to Subrat when police brought them face to face during questioning. Shalu further denied having any knowledge of an alleged plan to frame her for the crime. When asked whether she could forgive her husband or continue their relationship, she said she was not ready to make such a decision. She said she needed time to understand everything that had happened and deal with the developments surrounding the case.

A court ordered Shalu’s release on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 after investigators raised questions about the evidence previously used against her. The court observed that it found no independent and credible evidence linking her to the alleged murder conspiracy. The order requires Shalu to appear before the court or investigating officer whenever authorities summon her. Police had initially focused their investigation on Shalu and suspected her involvement in the killing. However, investigators later arrested Subrat and shifted their focus toward his alleged role. Police now claim that Subrat attempted to make Shalu appear responsible by influencing the alleged hitmen to name her after their arrest. Investigators are examining statements from the accused and other people involved to establish the sequence of events surrounding Vineet’s murder.

Police Say Subrat Tried to Frame His Wife

According to police, the case changed after investigators examined the statements and evidence connected to the alleged killers. One of the accused, Vishal Gautam, had earlier claimed that Shalu asked him to kill Vineet and provided a key to the house. Police now allege that Subrat arranged for Vishal to obtain a duplicate key from the Gumti No. 5 area of Kanpur. Investigators also say Subrat had allegedly planned his father’s murder months earlier amid disputes involving money and Vineet’s personal relationships. Police arrested Subrat after questioning him and examining the evidence collected during the investigation. Shalu, meanwhile, rejected the account linking her to Vishal. She said she had spoken to him on the day of the party only because she wanted him to bring flowers for a rangoli. Investigators continue to verify these claims through independent evidence.

The Kanpur Police are now examining call records, CCTV footage and the movements of the people involved to establish what happened before and after Vineet Minocha’s murder. Investigators are comparing the statements given by Shalu, Subrat and the alleged hitmen with available digital and physical evidence. Police are also examining how the duplicate key was arranged and whether the accused coordinated their movements before the killing. Shalu has said her immediate priority is her six-year-old child and that she wants to keep him away from the details of the case. She has also said she needs time before deciding how she will deal with her relationship with Subrat. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are expected to establish the roles of the accused based on the evidence collected during the probe.
