Rajasthan: Woman beaten, stripped by in-laws, police file case

Rajasthan: In Pratapgarh district, a woman was reportedly subjected to a public beating and stripping by her husband and members of his family. The incident was brought to public attention when a video of the incident went viral, leading the police to initiate an investigation.

The incident is said to have occurred on Monday. The woman, who had been married just last year, was assaulted by her husband and in-laws, who accused her of running away with a man from the neighborhood.

Not only was the woman beaten, but she was also stripped and allegedly paraded naked in the village.

In a tweet on Friday night, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took note of the incident and said that there was no place for such criminals in a civilised society. He said that the accused would be caught soon and punished after being prosecuted in a fast-track court.

An FIR has been registered and six police teams have been constituted to probe the case.

Reacting to the incident, former chief minister and BJP leader Vasundhara Raje slammed the Congress government. She said it was responsible for making the state “number 1” in terms of crimes committed against women in the state.

She also appealed to people not to share the video with anyone.

The Pratapgarh police have also made an appeal not to circulate the video on social media platforms.

BJP leader Satish Poonia took to X (formerly known as Twitter. She wrote, “Heartbroken after watching the video of misbehaviour towards a tribal woman in Pratapgarh. The morale of the criminals is so high that they are openly making videos of the crime.”

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar arrived at the village in Pratapgarh. Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra has issued instructions to promptly apprehend the individuals responsible for the incident.
