Pune Rape Case: Police Release Poster of Masked Accused

Pune Police has issued a poster of the suspect wanted in connection with the alleged rape of a 26-year-old woman at the Swargate bus depot, an incident that has caused widespread anger in the city.

According to news agency ANI, the police have also offered a reward of ₹1 lakh for any information leading to the arrest of the accused, identified as Dattatray Ramdas Gade.

The poster states that the police have filed a case under section 64, 351(2) of 2023 against the accused.

“The police have registered the case under section 64, 351(2) of 2023, and the accused, Dattatray Ramdas Gade, 37 years old, resident of Gunat T.” Shirur, Distt. “Pune, is wanted for the crime,” the poster states.

“Information about accused Dattatray Gade Rs. “The police will award 1,00,000/- (one lakh rupees), and they will keep the informant’s name confidential,” it adds.

The 26-year-old woman, waiting for a bus to go home, was raped by a man in a stationary Shivshahi bus at Pune’s Swargate bus depot.

The suspect told her to board a state transport corporation’s Shivshahi bus parked in the depot, followed her into the bus and raped her. The woman approached the police after the crime.

According to the police, the accused in the Swargate bus depot rape case was wearing a mask during the attack, making it difficult to recognise his face.

“The problem is that the accused wore a mask when the incident happened, making his face hard to recognize,” Smartana Patil, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), zone II, Pune, said, according to ANI. “But our team worked hard to recognize the accused, and we have other pieces of evidence against him.”

She also expressed trust in the police team’s capability to apprehend the suspect. “The only thing left is to catch him,” Patil remarked.

The police assigned thirteen teams to locate the suspect, including eight teams from the Crime Branch and five teams from Swargate Police Station, actively working on the case.
