Gangster Sharad Mohol shot dead in Pune, probe on

Unknown assailants fired gunshots at notorious gangster Sharad Hiraman Mohol (40) in Kothrud on Friday afternoon. A resident of Sutardara in Kothrud, Mohol sustained a gunshot wound in the attack and was subsequently taken to Sahyadri Hospital in the Kothrud area. Unfortunately, he was declared deceased at the hospital, according to the police.

Police have initiated a probe into the case. “Prima-facie, it is suspected that the attack on Sharad Mohol was the fallout of an internal rivalry within his own gang over a financial dispute. Investigation is on,” said Retesh Kumaarr, commissioner of Pune city police.

Senior police inspector Hemant Patil of Kothrud police station said that about three to four men opened fire at Mohol at around 1.30 pm. Police teams have been dispatched in search of the assailants, said Patil.

Meanwhile, hundreds of supporters of Sharad Mohol gathered at the dead house in Sassoon hospital. The process of lodging a first information report (FIR) in this case was on at the Kothrud police station.

Sharad Mohol’s Criminal History:

Mohol is known to be a dreaded gangster named in about 15 serious crimes. It can be recalled that Mohol and his henchman Alok Bhalerao were charged for the murder of suspected Indian Mujahideen member and terror case suspect Qateel Siddiqui in June 2012 after he was strangled to death inside Yerwada jail. Both Mohol and Bhalerao were acquitted by a court in Pune in June 2019.

Sharad Mohol was also named as a key accused in the murder of gangster Kishor Marne in January 2010. He and his six aides were convicted and awarded life imprisonment by a court in this murder case lodged at the Dattawadi police station. But he moved the high court against the conviction. He was later granted bail by the high court in 2021.
