The death toll from the Peshawar Police Lines mosque blast has risen to 100, according to Geo News, as the rescue operation to recover bodies from the mosque debris concluded on Tuesday.
According to Mohammad Asim, the spokesperson for the primary medical facility, Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar, approximately 100 bodies have been taken into the facility and 53 patients are being treated, as per Geo News.
At around 1 p.m. on Monday, during Zohr prayers, a suicide bomber blew himself up in the mosque, a heavily guarded police facility, causing the roof to collapse on those praying. The caretaker CM revealed that an investigation committee had been formed to find those responsible for this act.
According to Geo News, a spokesperson for Rescue 1122 stated that the rescue operation to recover bodies from the mosque’s debris has finally concluded.
Inspector-General Moazzam Jah Ansari, speaking alongside KP CM Azam Khan at a press conference, stated that approximately 10-12 kilogrammes of explosives were used in the blast. According to Geo News, he stated that there was a security breach and that investigations are underway to determine the facts.
“We are checking one-month’s CCTV footage and tracking the facilitators of the bomber,” he added. According to security officials, the suicide attacker blew himself up in the front row during the prayers. The attack was claimed by the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
