Uttar Pradesh ATS arrests man for spying, funding ISI agents

The Uttar Pradesh Police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested a man named Shehzad from Moradabad on Sunday for spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), and smuggling goods across the India-Pakistan border. Acting on a tip-off, the ATS tracked and identified Shehzad, a resident of Tanda in Rampur district. The informer revealed that Shehzad smuggled goods with ISI’s backing and engaged in anti-national activities.

Shehzad Used Smuggling Routes to Spy and Share Intel with ISI, Says ATS

The police discovered that Shehzad had secretly traveled between India and Pakistan for years. During these trips, he smuggled cosmetics, clothes, spices, and other items into India. The ATS confirmed that Shehzad used these trips to contact ISI agents and share classified information about India’s security.

Investigators found that Shehzad sent money to ISI-linked agents in India under instructions from Pakistani handlers. He also recruited individuals from Rampur and surrounding areas and sent them to Pakistan under the pretext of smuggling. In reality, he recruited them to work for the ISI.

Shehzad Provided SIM Cards, ISI Arranged Travel Papers for Recruits, Says ATS

The ATS revealed that ISI agents arranged travel documents and visas for these recruits. Shehzad even supplied Indian SIM cards to ISI operatives, enabling them to spy on Indian territory. These actions posed a serious threat to national security, according to the police.

In a separate case, the police arrested a woman named Rani from the New Aggarwal Extension area in Hisar district. They caught her sharing sensitive information with an official of the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi. Authorities booked her under Sections 3 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act and Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for endangering India’s sovereignty. A court remanded her to five days of police custody on Saturday.
