A shocking incident in Nagpur has exposed a murder that police initially believed to be a suicide. Investigators found that a neighbour killed a 23-year-old college student after she rejected his advances and later staged the crime as a suicide.
Suicide claim fails after medical findings
Prachi Hemraj, a BA student training in share trading, was found hanging in her bedroom on Wednesday. Based on information from her mother, police first registered an accidental death case. Family members also believed she had died by suicide.
The preliminary post-mortem report changed the direction of the case. Doctors found severe head injuries that did not match death by hanging. Police then launched a murder investigation.

Neighbour planned attack after rejection
During questioning, police focused on Prachi’s neighbour, Shekhar Ajabrao Dhore. Investigators learned that Dhore was in love with Prachi, but she had rejected him.
Police said Dhore entered the house when Prachi was alone. Her parents and brother were at work. In a rage, he allegedly strangled her and slammed her head against a wall or floor.
Accused stages murder as suicide
After killing Prachi, Dhore allegedly tried to destroy evidence. He used a scarf to hang her body and make the death appear like suicide.
Post-mortem findings and physical injuries confirmed foul play. Police registered a murder case and arrested the accused, 38-year-old Shekhar Ajabrao Dhore. The investigation continues.
