A firefight between suspected Maoist and security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district, near the Odisha border, resulted in the deaths of at least 12 individuals, including one with a Rs 1 crore bounty. The encounter began on Monday inside a tiger reserve.
Nikhil Rakhecha, Superintendent of Police in Gariaband, informed The Indian Express that Jayram, also known as Chalapathi, an alleged member.
the Maoist Central Committee, was killed during the exchange of fire that occurred late Monday and early Tuesday in the forest near the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border. Rakhecha added that Reddy, 60, a school dropout, was from Andhra Pradesh.

Two Female Maoists Killed in Gariaband Encounter, CoBRA Jawan Injured
The recent Maoist fatalities occurred a day after the Gariaband District Police, CRPF, CoBRA, and Odisha’s Special Operation Group (SOG), trained for anti-Naxal operations, killed.
Two suspected female left-wing extremists from the Sonabeda-Dharambandha Committee. A CoBRA jawan also sustained a minor injury during the encounter.

12 More Maoists Killed in Ongoing Joint Operation in Udanti Sitanadi Tiger Reserve
The joint operation started on January 19 after security forces received information about the movement of Maoists from the Sonabeda-Dharambandha Committee.
The encounter broke out at 8 am on Monday in the Udanti Sitanadi Tiger Reserve, around 60 to 70 km away from the Gariaband Headquarters and around 20 km away from the Odisha border.
In continuation of the above, the ongoing operation resulted in the killing of 12 more Maoists during late night and early morning EOF with the SOG team on the morning of 21 Jan 2025.
The number of Maoist casualties may increase.Chhattisgarh Police seized massive amounts of arms and ammunition, according to a press note.

CRPF and CoBRA Teams Lead Operation in Chhattisgarh
Sources in CRPF said 11 teams, including its CoBRA unit, conducted the operation in Chhattisgarh. They said around 25-30 Maoist groups, probably the Indagaon area committee under the leadership of top Maoist Sunil, were present at the encounter site.
Security forces recovered the bodies of three women Maoist cadres and one SLR from the site.. A search is still going on, said a source.
