Curfew imposed in Manipur as tension rises, patrols ongoing

In response to recent violence, the Kuki-Zo Council declared a full shutdown across Manipur hill regions from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday. This move was intended to show collective grief and solidarity for those who were brutally killed in recent incidents. This shutdown followed the deaths of eleven suspected militants in a gunfight with security forces in Manipur’s Jiribam district on the previous day.

On Tuesday morning, November 12, 2024, the atmosphere in the district remained calm but was still tense, as police forces increased patrols around areas considered to be sensitive or vulnerable.
