Triple Explosions Hit Manipur Bridge Before Next Voting Round

A bridge in Manipur Kangpokpi district was damaged by three medium-intensity explosives late on Tuesday and Wednesday night, only two days before the second phase of voting in some areas of Outer Manipur. The incident did not result in any injuries or fatalities, but it would have an impact on traffic flow along National Highway-2, which runs across Nagaland and connects Imphal and Dimapur.

No Group Claims Responsibility Yet

A security official reported that the event happened near Sapormeina in the Kangpokpi area at 1:15 in the morning. The official stated that inquiries are still ongoing and that no organisation has yet to take responsibility for the tragedy. The area has block off by security personnel, and other bridges and surrounding places are being inspect and search.

Election Violence Mars Manipur’s First Poll Phase, Rescheduled Voting Ensues

Gunfire, the damage of electronic voting machines, and accusations of coercion and intimidation in some areas of the Inner Manipur constituency marred the state’s first round of voting on April 19.

On April 22, elections were hold at 11 polling places in the constituency once again. Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur, Ramananda Nongmeikapam, had reported incidents of booth capturing, voter-verifiable paper audit trails (VVPATs) destruction, and eruption of mob violence in a letter to the Election Commission during the first round of voting. He add that an old man shot by miscreants in Imphal East, causing injuries.

Gunfights Erupt on Imphal West-Kangpokpi Border Amidst Villager Descent

Since then, there have also been gunfights in the Kangpokpi district along the boundary between Imphal West. Heavy shooting was recorded in the nearby villages of Luwangsangol and Awang Sekmai when a group of people in the Kangpookpi area descended from the hills, according to news agency PTI.
