Mumbai: Police in Mumbai have apprehended two vendors in connection with the demise of a 19-year-old individual who consumed ‘chicken shawarma’ purchased from their stall. The victim, identified as Prathamesh Bhokse, acquired the food item from the suspects’ stall situated in the Trombay area on May 3, as per an official statement on Tuesday.

May 4, Prathamesh Bhokse experienced intense stomach pain and vomiting, prompting him to seek medical assistance at a nearby municipal hospital.
Upon returning home, he experienced sickness once more, prompting his family members to transport him to the civic-run KEM Hospital on May 5.

An attending physician treated him and discharged him, as relayed by an official from the Trombay police station.
However, as the man’s condition worsened the following day, he was once again brought to the hospital for evaluation. This time, he was admitted after the examination.
Mumbai police arrested the two food vendors
The hospital authorities opted to notify the police, who then filed a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified individuals under sections 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others) and 273 (sale of noxious food or drink) of the Indian Penal Code, according to the official.

Tragically, the man’s health never improved, and he passed away on Monday, as confirmed by the official.
Subsequently, the police arrested the two food vendors – Anand Kamble and Ahmed Sheikh – and charged them with various IPC sections, including 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), the official added.
