Shahrukh Saifi was taken into custody by a Kerala Police investigation team in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. In Kerala, Saifi is accused of burning his fellow passengers on fire while riding in a moving train. The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday, April 5 at around 3 am from a train in Ratnagiri by a special investigation team from Kerala.
According to media sources, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad is now keeping accused Shahrukh Saifi in prison (ATS). On Sunday, April 2, around 9.45 p.m., Saifi allegedly boarded the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train in Kozhikode with the intention of dousing other passengers in flammable liquid and lighting them on fire.
After the event, the bodies of a lady, a man, and a kid were discovered on the tracks close to the Elathur station, according to the police. The three people may have fallen or leapt from the train to escape the flames while attempting to do so.
The police published a drawing of the suspect. Earlier, it was claimed that the UP ATS had arrested a suspect in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. ATS personnel just examined his credentials, according to UP ATS chief Navin Arora, and the man was neither detained or questioned.
A four-person team from the National Investigative Agency (NIA) reportedly visited the scene and interviewed witnesses on Monday. The investigation team believes the incident may have had terrorist undertones. It hasn’t, however, formally taken control of the inquiry.
Also, the police found a strange bag that most likely belonged to the accused. The state police have stated that the incident does not appear to be an act of terror, despite the fact that the NIA suspected a terrorist component to the case.
