Kerala police on Monday solved a week-old case of theft of ₹1 crore and 300 sovereigns of gold from the house of a prominent trader in Kannur district.
A neighbour has been arrested in connection with the heist.
The police arrested the accused, 30-year-old Vijesh, on Saturday following an investigation team set up to look into the case.
Vijesh, a welder from the same locality as the trader, had the stolen cash and jewelry recovered from beneath a cot in his house, PTI reported.
The police said the case was solved using CCTV footage and fingerprint evidence gathered from the crime scene.
CCTV footage revealed the accused returning to the same house the day after the theft, suggesting the involvement of someone familiar with the household.
Crucial evidence included a chisel found inside the house and fingerprints, police said.

Police believed the burglars entered the house by gas-cutting the iron grill of the kitchen window. CCTV footage revealed three individuals scaling the compound to break in.
A team from Kerala’s forensic department gathered fingerprints and other evidence from the crime scene, after which the police initiated a large-scale search to apprehend the accused.
According to a report from The Times of India, Kerala is experiencing an increase in burglary cases involving gangs from other states. The number of such cases rose from 192 in 2021 to 519 in 2023.
The report stated that the police have arrested 1,325 individuals in connection with these cases, but recovering the stolen gold remains a significant challenge.
