Couple Meets at Poopara Tea Plantation to Discuss Relationship
According to police, Nishanth and Nithya had maintained a relationship since 2023 before differences led to their separation. After the breakup, Nishanth allegedly contacted the young woman and persuaded her to meet him in Poopara. Police said the accused arranged the meeting under the pretext of discussing their past relationship. Nithya agreed to meet him, apparently expecting a conversation about their differences. The two met at a tea plantation in Poopara on October 11 at approximately 2:30 pm. However, their discussion reportedly turned into a heated argument. Investigators believe the disagreement escalated before Nishanth allegedly attacked Nithya. Police are examining the events that led to the confrontation and the possible motive behind the crime. They are also investigating the couple’s relationship history to understand whether any earlier disputes contributed to the incident. Authorities continue to collect evidence as part of the murder investigation.
Police allege that Nishanth strangled Nithya during the confrontation and repeatedly struck her with a stone. The attack proved fatal, and the 18-year-old died at the scene, according to investigators. After killing her, the accused allegedly decided to dispose of the body and conceal evidence of the crime. Rather than informing the authorities, he reportedly left the scene and returned several hours later. Police suspect that Nishanth planned his subsequent actions to prevent investigators from identifying the circumstances of the murder. The brutality of the alleged attack has drawn attention to the case in Idukki district. Investigators are now working to establish the precise sequence of events at the plantation. They are also examining evidence that could help establish the accused’s movements before and after the murder. Officials have not yet disclosed further details about the investigation, but they continue to question the accused and examine the available evidence.
Police Arrest Nishanth After He Goes Into Hiding
Police said Nishanth returned several hours after the alleged murder to remove the body and destroy evidence. After 10 pm, he reportedly loaded Nithya’s body into his autorickshaw and drove towards the Pambla Dam area. Investigators allege that he carried petrol with him and poured it over the body before setting it on fire. He allegedly took these steps to conceal the crime and make identification more difficult. However, the plan did not prevent the discovery of the remains. Authorities later found the young woman’s charred remains near the dam, prompting a police investigation. The discovery helped investigators begin examining the circumstances of her death and tracing the people connected to the case. Police are looking into the accused’s movements between the time of the alleged murder and the discovery of the remains. They are also collecting evidence to establish how he transported the body and attempted to conceal the crime.
Following the incident, Nishanth allegedly switched off his mobile phone and went into hiding to avoid detection. Police launched an investigation after discovering Nithya’s charred remains near the Pambla Dam area. Investigators followed available leads and eventually traced the accused to the Rajakumari area, where they took him into custody. His arrest allowed police to pursue further inquiries into the alleged murder and the subsequent attempt to burn the body. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation, including the couple’s breakup and their final meeting in Poopara. Investigators are also examining the evidence collected from locations associated with the crime. Police have yet to disclose all the findings of their investigation. The case highlights the tragic consequences of alleged relationship-related violence and has raised serious concerns about the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
