Karnataka Double Murder: Doctor Dead, Son Stabbed to Death, Wife Found Beside Bodies

A 45-year-old doctor, Dr. Kiran Honannavar, was allegedly killed inside his apartment in Karnataka Dharwad, while his eight-year-old son suffered multiple stab injuries. Police alleged that the attack was carried out by the doctor’s wife, Priyanka Kattanahalli, who is also a medical professional. Neighbours alerted authorities after noticing unusual activity and failing to contact the family. Officers reached the apartment and found Dr. Honannavar dead with severe injuries. They immediately secured the crime scene and began a detailed investigation into the incident.

Karnataka Family’s Concern Led Police to the Crime Scene

Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar personally inspected the apartment after receiving the alert. During the inspection, he noticed that the injured child was still breathing despite his critical condition. Police immediately shifted the boy to a private hospital, where doctors continue his treatment. Investigators also found Priyanka inside the apartment. A video from the scene reportedly showed her using her mobile phone while police examined the victims. Officers collected forensic evidence and documented the condition of the apartment for further investigation.

According to investigators, family members became suspicious after they could not reach Dr. Honannavar by phone. Priyanka allegedly answered several calls and informed relatives that her husband was resting before later claiming he had left for work. Concerned relatives eventually visited the apartment on Wednesday evening after receiving no direct response from him. They found the doctor lying in a pool of blood and the injured child nearby before immediately informing the police. Authorities have included these statements in their ongoing investigation.

Investigation Focuses on Timeline, Motive, and Forensic Evidence

Police said the family lived together in a sixth-floor apartment opposite Pavan High School in Dharwad. Preliminary findings indicate that only the husband, wife, and child were present inside the home when the incident occurred. Investigators have not found evidence suggesting that an outsider entered the apartment. Officers are questioning neighbours and reviewing CCTV footage to establish the exact timeline. They are also examining mobile phones, digital records, and other evidence collected from the residence.

Police have registered a murder case and continue investigating the motive behind the alleged attack. Investigators are analysing phone records, forensic reports, and witness statements to reconstruct the sequence of events. Officials said they will question everyone connected to the family and verify every available piece of evidence. Authorities have assured that the investigation will proceed thoroughly before any further legal action. The child remains under medical care while police continue gathering crucial evidence in the case.
