Coaching, Photoshoot Plan Turns Into Nightmare for Jamui Minor Couple; POCSO Case Filed

On September 19, two minor in Bihar’s Jamui district were allegedly harassed by a group of men while returning home after attending a coaching class. The teenagers had reportedly gone for a photo session before travelling on a scooter. According to the police, the group stopped them at an isolated location and allegedly abused and humiliated them. A video of the incident later went viral on social media, prompting widespread outrage and demands for action.

Jamui Viral Video: Three Arrested After Minors Harassed on Way Home

The viral footage reportedly shows one of the accused allegedly grabbing the girl and dragging her while she pleaded with the group to let them go. Jamui Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Dayal said the victims had not initially filed a complaint. After the video surfaced online, police traced the minors and recorded their statements. Following the intervention of the district administration, police registered an FIR at Sadar police station under the POCSO Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the case, while the investigation is continuing. District Magistrate Naveen also contacted the victims and recorded their statements. Authorities said they are examining the available evidence and taking further legal action. The police also announced plans for an awareness campaign aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.

Police Register POCSO Case, Take Action Against Accused

The Bihar State Women’s Commission also took cognisance of the matter and called for strict action against those involved. The incident attracted political reactions as well, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi describing it as deeply disturbing and questioning the behaviour of the people involved. JDU spokesperson Naval Sharma said that the law would prevail in Bihar and that mob justice would not be tolerated.

The incident has brought renewed attention to the safety of minors and the need for prompt action in cases involving harassment. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and the roles of those involved. The arrested accused will face legal proceedings under the sections mentioned in the FIR.
