Dentist Steps In to Treat Seriously Injured Indian Pilot on flydubai Flight

An Israeli dentist treated injured Indian pilot Smit Machchhar after his co-pilot allegedly stabbed him during flight. Machchhar reportedly suffered severe injuries while fighting to protect passengers during the terrifying cockpit emergency.

Despite heavy bleeding, the injured pilot opened the cockpit door and helped prevent further danger. Musaev Shota, a dentist, was among four passengers who rushed toward the cockpit immediately. The passengers moved quickly after the Omani co-pilot allegedly attempted to crash the aircraft. Shota and others reportedly overpowered the suspected attacker before restraining him inside the aircraft.

Shota then provided emergency treatment to Machchhar, who had suffered serious bleeding and injuries. Speaking to Israeli outlet Ynet, Shota recalled immediately responding after noticing something had gone seriously wrong. The dentist said Machchhar remained conscious despite suffering heavy bleeding from his head and hands. Shota explained that he was the only doctor aboard the flight during the emergency. He managed to control the pilot’s bleeding and keep his condition relatively stable until landing. However, Shota said Machchhar’s condition deteriorated somewhat shortly before the aircraft reached its destination.

Speaking to CNN, Shota described the pilot as covered with numerous cuts across his body. He said Machchhar’s head and hands appeared severely injured following the alleged stabbing attack. Despite those injuries, Machchhar remained conscious and continued communicating with the passengers around him. The pilot reportedly told Shota that he was 39 years old and had two children. Machchhar also reportedly said the attacker stabbed him while shouting curses during the incident. Shota later told Associated Press that Machchhar prayed continuously while remaining conscious throughout treatment. After the emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi medical personnel took over Machchhar’s treatment. India’s diplomatic missions said they continued monitoring Machchhar’s condition and remained in contact with his family.
