Mumbai Police and Maharashtra Cyber Department have summoned comedian Samay Raina, who participated in the controversial reality show India’s Got Latent, to appear within the next five days. Meanwhile, social media influencer Ranveer Allahbadia has been asked to be present at Khar police station on Friday, February 14, 2025. This comes after he failed to appear for questioning regarding his controversial remarks on a YouTube show, an official confirmed.
Mr. Allahbadia was supposed to visit the Khar police station on Thursday but did not show up. He told the police that he feared media attention, an official said. However, authorities made it clear that he could not avoid questioning and must appear on Friday.
The cyber cell and Mumbai police are separately investigating his alleged obscene and vulgar remarks, which have sparked nationwide outrage.
Meanwhile, Samay Raina, currently in the U.S., has requested more time to appear before authorities. Mumbai police have instructed him to record his statement before February 17. While the state cyber department has summoned him on February 18.
Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia Under Scrutiny in Mumbai Police Probe
An Assam Police team, currently in Mumbai for a case against Ranveer Allahbadia and four others in Guwahati, met Maharashtra Cyber Cell officials on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police (Khar police station) has recorded statements from seven individuals, including social media influencer Apoorva Makhija. These statements were taken in response to a complaint filed by a BJP functionary, though no FIR has been registered yet.
The state cyber department has summoned over 40 individuals, including Allahbadia and comedian Samay Raina, for questioning regarding an FIR filed over Allahbadia’s remarks. On Tuesday, authorities also issued notices to past guests and judges of India’s Got Latent.
Allahbadia, who has over 16 million followers on social media. He faced backlash after a video of his controversial comments about parents and sex went viral. Despite issuing a video apology, calling it a lapse in judgment, the controversy continues. Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske even raised the issue in Parliament, demanding a law to regulate social media.
