An investigation into the deaths of seven people in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar has revealed how an illegal attempt to manufacture liquor in the dry state ended in tragedy. Investigators found that the liquor contained 38.59% methanol, a highly poisonous chemical that licensed alcoholic drinks Gujarat do not contain. The group allegedly involved in producing the liquor Gujrat used methanol while preparing one of the batches, resulting in severe poisoning. The incident has highlighted the dangers of illegally produced liquor and the risks associated with using industrial chemicals without proper Gujarat knowledge or safety measures. Ironically, one of the people allegedly involved in preparing the toxic liquor also consumed it and later died. Gujarat Authorities are continuing to investigate the supply chain and identify everyone involved in the illegal operation.
Seven people died in the tragedy
Authorities have identified the seven deceased as Upendrasinh Chandrasinh Gohil, Kartik Ashwin Makwana, Ghanshyamsinh Jaypalsinh Jadeja, Kanaksinh Hanubha Gohil, Narendrasinh Yadav alias Doctor, Jay Jitu Bhatti and Hitesh Dileep Parmar. Six victims died while undergoing treatment at hospitals, while police found Parmar dead inside his home on Wednesday night. Investigators found him lying near his bed, with a glass of the suspected toxic liquor spilled on the floor. Police also recovered a partially filled bottle from the kitchen. The bottle carried a sticker of an India-Made Foreign Liquor brand, allegedly used to make the spurious liquor appear genuine. The investigation has also revealed that Narendrasinh Yadav, a Madhya Pradesh resident, was among the accused named in the case. Police have named 21 people as accused, including Raees and Gujarat-based bootlegger Gautam Solanki, who investigators suspect led the operation.
According to the FIR filed on the complaint of Inspector SB Padheriya, Gautam Solanki allegedly contacted Raees through an intermediary to discuss manufacturing liquor. The two allegedly joined Zubair, a resident of Ujjain, and travelled to Ahmedabad to obtain materials for the operation. Investigators allege that the group brought methanol, bottles and labels to Bhavnagar and produced their first batch, consisting of around 51 cartons. Gautam and his brother-in-law Jatin allegedly helped distribute the liquor. However, the second batch reportedly failed because its quality was extremely poor, forcing the group to destroy it. The accused then allegedly sought advice from Narendrasinh Yadav, known as Doctor, to prepare another batch. Investigators say the group used methanol while producing the third batch, which eventually caused the deaths.
Toxic liquor distributed through bootleggers
Investigators allege that the group prepared approximately 25 cartons of methanol-contaminated liquor in its third production attempt. They then allegedly distributed the bottles among several bootleggers operating in the area. The liquor reached consumers despite containing a dangerous concentration of methanol. Narendrasinh Yadav, who police have accused of helping prepare the third batch, also consumed the liquor. He later developed serious health problems and died while receiving treatment at Ved Hospital in Bhavnagar on Tuesday. His death has added an unusual dimension to the investigation because the alleged person involved in preparing the toxic mixture also became one of its victims. Police are now trying to determine how much of the contaminated liquor entered circulation and where the remaining bottles went.
Police officials have said that they have not yet recovered all bottles of the suspected spurious liquor. Investigators are conducting searches and attempting to seize the remaining stock before anyone else consumes it. Authorities are also examining the alleged network involved in procuring methanol, manufacturing the liquor, arranging fake labels and distributing the bottles. The case has been registered under provisions of the and the , including charges related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.Gujrat The deaths have also triggered action against local police personnel. Four officers posted at Vartej police station have been suspended following the incident. The investigation will now focus on identifying the full supply chain, recovering the remaining contaminated liquor and determining the responsibility of each accused.
