On Tuesday night in the Doda region of Jammu and Kashmir, militants assaulted a joint police and security force checkpoint, injuring six people, including five soldiers. This was the third terror incident in the normally tranquil province since Sunday evening.

The attack happened in the picturesque Chattergala region, at a height of 12,000 feet above sea level. The police acknowledged the attack but stated they were still gathering information.

Militants Attack Joint Checkpoint with Gunfire and Grenade, Prolonged Clash Ensues
According to sources, at approximately 8 p.m., militants started fire on a tin shack where the police and Army had set up a joint roadblock at Chhatergala, which borders the Sarthal area of the Kathua district. Renowned tourist spots Chattergala in the Bhaderwah area of Doda and the nearby Sarthal in the Kathua district draw large numbers of visitors each year from all across the nation.
According to sources, militants also threw a grenade at the checkpoint, prompting a response from the police and security personnel. The gunfight went on until the wee hours of Wednesday.

Injured Shifted to Hospital; Reinforcements Deployed for Militant Search
The wounded soldiers were sent to the Bhaderwah hospital along with a special police officer (SPO) following the militants’ retreat. They were afterwards moved to Udhampur’s Army Command Hospital.

To look for militants, security personnel and police reinforcements were dispatched to Chattergala, which is around 35 miles from Bhaderwah. All vehicle traffic from Bhaderwah towards Chattergala was stopped by the police. The attack happened shortly after a terrorist strike that left a civilian injured around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the remote Saida village in the Kathua district’s plains. One militant was neutralised by the police while they looked for his accomplice, who had absconded.

In the Pouni neighbourhood of the Reasi district on Sunday, militants attacked a bus. Nine fatalities and 38 injuries were reported, including seven pilgrims.
The police offered a reward of Rs 20 lakh for information on one of the terrorists responsible for the attack on the pilgrims’ bus, and they also produced a sketch of the attacker.
