DGCA suspends its director due to allegations of corruption

Due to charges of corruption, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) suspended its director on Wednesday. Malpractice is not tolerated at all.

Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia declared that “any such issue will always be dealt with the strictest measures in accordance with the law.”

Days after the aviation regulator urged the ministry to forward the bribery case against DGCA director Captain Anil Gill to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI), the ministry has decided to suspend Gill.

An anonymous email containing accusations against Gill, who was recently moved to the aerosports department, was received by the government and the DGCA.

As previously reported by HT, the email claimed that Gill coerced Skynex Aeroflight Solutions, a DGCA-approved FTO, into sending him to the Czech Republic for training on Piper PA-28 aircraft, even though it was not necessary for his position.

The email claimed that Gill used these visits to execute dealership relations between his benami company, Sabres Corporate Solutions, and the aircraft manufacturer, Brittell Aircraft, in order to extract commission, which would be in Forex, even though the original agreement called for the direct supply of aircraft to FTO (Skynex),” the official who was aware of the situation told HT.

Officials claim that the second email and the problems it brought up could lead to violations of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act.

After receiving an email accusing Gill of accepting airplanes as bribes and other connected matters, Gill was moved from director of FT to director of Aerosports.

The letter claims that Captain Gill abused his authority to accept three airplanes as bribes from flying schools and then leased them to other schools for an average of Rs. 90 lakh apiece.
