Woman Found Dead Hours After Meeting Colleagues
Akriti had married Arastu Sikka on April 24 after the couple had been in a relationship for nearly eight years. She worked as a sales executive at a private company, while her husband was reportedly unemployed. According to her family, the marriage became troubled soon after the wedding. They alleged that she frequently faced harassment and humiliation at her matrimonial home.
The victim’s brother, Amay Sutar, claimed that Akriti was mentally strong and could never have ended her own life. He alleged that her husband repeatedly abused her, doubted her character, and subjected her to physical and emotional torture. The family also said they had taken steps to address the issue only a few days before the incident. They have urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation.
Family Alleges Abuse, Dowry Demand and Foul Play
The family further accused Akriti’s in-laws of demanding ₹20 lakh as dowry after the marriage. They alleged that the continuous pressure and mistreatment caused her immense distress. Despite these allegations, her mother said Akriti sounded completely normal when they spoke over the phone at around 6 pm on the day of the incident. During the call, Akriti informed her mother that she had finished the office party and was heading home.
Later that evening, Akriti’s husband reportedly called her family and informed them that she had gone missing. About 90 minutes later, police contacted the family and informed them that a woman’s body had been found at Palika Kunj in Lodhi Colony. The grieving family continues to demand justice, maintaining that Akriti did not die by suicide. Meanwhile, Delhi Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death and are awaiting further evidence to establish the facts.
