Delhi Cops Leave Shimla with Three Accused After Police Face-Off

A dramatic confrontation unfolded between the Delhi Police and the Himachal Pradesh Police after the arrest of three accused from Rohru in Shimla district. The arrests triggered a day-long high-voltage standoff on Wednesday, during which Himachal Police intercepted and detained the Delhi Police team at multiple checkpoints. After prolonged arguments, legal formalities and repeated questioning over procedure, Delhi Police finally left Shimla around 5:55 am on Thursday with the three accused following intense coordination and court intervention.

Delhi Team Stopped at Dharampur

The confrontation escalated when Himachal Police stopped the Delhi team at Dharampur in Solan district while they were transporting the accused towards Shimla. Officers from both sides engaged in heated arguments over jurisdiction and legal procedures. Shimla Police detained the Delhi Police vehicles and personnel for several hours and questioned their authority to carry out the arrests. Later, officials released all detained vehicles, allowing the Delhi team to proceed after they submitted the required seizure memo and documentation.

Delhi Police confirmed that they handed over the seizure memo to Shimla Police and retained custody of the seized DVR and the Thar vehicle allegedly linked to the accused. ACP Rahul Vikram stated that the seized vehicle was a government vehicle carrying case property and therefore could not be confiscated. Officials also clarified that Saurabh Singh and Arbaaz Khan hail from Uttar Pradesh, while Siddharth Avdhoot belongs to Madhya Pradesh.

Delhi Gets Transit Remand After Midnight Hearing

Late-night court proceedings in Shimla brought a crucial breakthrough. The accused were produced around 1:00 am before ACJM-II Ekansh Kapil, who heard Delhi Police’s plea for transit remand. After considering submissions from both sides, the court granted transit remand, allowing Delhi Police to take the accused to Delhi for further investigation.

The situation intensified again in the evening when Delhi Police attempted to move the accused out of Shimla but faced another stoppage at a city barrier. This led to further arguments between the two forces. Shimla Police also registered an FIR in connection with the matter. Advocate Sandeep Dutta, representing the accused, challenged the arrests in court, arguing that authorities had not followed due procedure, failed to provide proper documentation and did not conduct medical examinations at the time of arrest.

Representing Delhi Police, advocate Nand Lal Thakur informed the court that officials had properly moved the transit remand application before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, who transferred the matter to the competent magistrate for approval. Following the court’s order, Delhi Police departed Shimla with the accused and seized material. The team will now present the accused before a local magistrate in Delhi as the investigation continues.
