Delhi Assembly security breach: Car breaks barricades

A major security scare unfolded at the Delhi Assembly on Monday afternoon when a speeding car smashed through the barricades and entered the restricted premises. Officials said the vehicle’s sudden intrusion triggered immediate alarm across the complex, prompting security personnel to respond within seconds. The unexpected breach disrupted routine operations inside the assembly, and staff members rushed out to see what had happened. The incident has now raised serious questions about perimeter safety.

Delhi Police confirmed that the driver was speeding and rammed the vehicle into the reinforced security barricades installed outside the assembly complex. After breaking through the barriers, the car forced its way in through the main gate, bypassing systems meant to prevent unauthorized access. Eyewitnesses said the reckless entry shocked everyone nearby, as such an incident had not occurred in recent years. Police officials have admitted that this breach exposed vulnerabilities they now urgently need to fix.

According to officials, the car, which had a Uttar Pradesh registration number, entered the premises by breaking Gate No. 2 at around 2 PM. Once inside, the driver drove straight toward the office of Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta without hesitation, indicating familiarity with the layout. The driver then placed a flower bouquet near the porch before attempting to leave, a gesture that added an unusual twist to the episode. Authorities said the act appeared deliberate rather than accidental.

Driver Escapes Despite Tight Security

Security personnel present at the assembly compound attempted to stop the vehicle the moment it entered, but the driver managed to evade them and exit the premises before they could detain him. Police teams immediately launched a large-scale search operation to track down the car and identify the driver involved. Officers said every nearby checkpoint and toll booth has been alerted. The escape, despite heavy security, has heightened concerns among senior officials.

Initial investigations revealed that the vehicle crossed multiple layers of security before entering the complex, raising concerns about serious lapses in enforcement. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from every angle to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine how the driver managed to navigate the premises so easily. Investigators believe the timing of the incident might also provide crucial clues. The breach has now pushed officials to conduct a full security audit.

Following the incident, authorities have tightened security around the Delhi Assembly, deploying additional personnel and enhancing vehicle screening procedures.
