Standard IX student stabs classmate in school after fight on playground in Nagpur

Nagpur: A Standard IX student, aged around 13 years, stabbed his classmate while playing in the school premises at Dabha on Wednesday. There was a fight between the two, following which one used a small multipurpose knife to attack the other.

Police sources said the two students, both studying in the Standard IX, were playing on the ground. One had been shoved by the other while playing. Following a heated argument, the two boys ended up in a fight.
During the scuffle, the injured boy had first slapped the other student, who brandished the multipurpose Chinese knife and assaulted him in return. The bleeding student was rushed to Alexis Hospital, Nagpur with stab injuries on the left side of the abdomen. The injured student was kept under observation for a day at the hospital before being discharged.

Gittikhadan police were alerted by the hospital authorities. The father of the injured student also lodged a complaint at the police station. “The school authorities did not report the matter at the police station, which was a gross act of negligence. It was an incident of stabbing and there could have been a fatality too,” said a senior official. “The statement of the injured student was recorded by the police. The cops also visited the school premises,” said the officer.

Zonal DCP Sandeep Pakhale said the matter would be referred to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) as per the norms of the Juvenile Justice Act. “We will send a detailed report of the incident along with the injury report to the JJB for further consideration,” said the DCP, adding JJB can decide on action based on the police findings and severity of the injury.
