More than seven months after the death of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suggested Indian government operatives may have played a part. Canadian police announced the arrest of three Indian citizens, all in their twenties, on murder charges.

Karan Brar (22), Kamalpreet Singh (22) and Karanpreet Singh (28), all Indian nationals who live in Edmonton, have been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Canadian police have been unable to establish a link between the three arrested individuals and the supposed Indian government agents described by Trudeau.

IHIT Vows to Pursue All Involved in Nijjar Homicide: Superintendent Mooker
Investigators from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), assisted by members of the British Columbia and Alberta Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Edmonton Police Service, detained the three males on Friday morning.

According to authorities, the suspects entered Canada on “student visas but may have been working at the direction of Indian intelligence when they shot Nijjar”. “The probe will not finish here. We are aware that there are others who may have been involve in this homicide, and we are commit to discovering and apprehending everyone of them,” stated Superintendent Mandeep Mooker, Officer in Charge of the IHIT.

Ongoing Probes Include Government of India Connections; Investigations Far from Complete
According to Canadian media, RCMP Assistant Commissioner David Teboul stated that “there are separate and distinct investigations ongoing into these matters, certainly not limited to the involvement of the people arrested today, and these efforts include investigating connections to the Government of India.”
“This matter is still under active investigation.” “I will emphasise that today’s announcements do not provide a complete picture of the ongoing investigation,” he stated.
Profiles of Arrested Individuals: Origins and Immigration Status Revealed
Karan Brar, one of the three held, comes from Kotkapura in Punjab’s Faridkot region and is claimed to have visited Canada on a study visa four years ago.

Karanpreet Singh, one of the three arrested, comes from Sundal village in the Batala police district. Sarpanch Lovedeep Singh of Sundal village informed The Indian Express that Karanpreet travelled to Canada on a work permit almost four years ago.

The third man apprehended, Kamalpreet Singh, is from Chak Kalan village in Jalandhar Rural Police District. Village Sarpanch Teerath Singh stated that Kamalpreet’s father, Satnam Singh, is an agriculturist and commission agent. “It’s a wealthy, respectable family. “Kamalpreet can never be involve in such an act,” he added, adding that he came to Canada on a student visa.
