British woman tourist raped by Delhi man she befriended on Instagram: Cops

According to Delhi Police, a British woman traveled to Delhi solely to meet a man she had befriended on social media. Reports from news agency ANI indicate that two men allegedly gang-raped her at a hotel in Delhi’s Mahipalpur. Kailash, one of the accused, had connected with her through Instagram.

Man Arrested for Rape of British Woman in Delhi Hotel; Accomplice Held for Molestation

“Police arrested a man on charges of raping a British woman in a Mahipalpur hotel in Delhi. They also arrested his accomplice on charges of molestation,” police said in a statement. “The woman, who had befriended the man through social media, traveled from the UK to Delhi to meet him. Authorities have also informed the British High Commission about the incident,” cops said.

Accused Known for Instagram Reels; Persuaded British Woman to Visit Delhi

According to police officials, Kailash, a resident of Vasundhara, Mayur Vihar, East Delhi, regularly creates Instagram reels. A few months ago, he met a London-based woman through the social media platform. While she was visiting Maharashtra and Goa, she contacted Kailash and invited him to meet her. However, he declined to travel and instead urged her to visit Delhi.

Victim Invites Kailash to Hotel; Alleged Assault Follows After Dinner and Drinks

On Tuesday evening, the woman arrived in Delhi and checked into a hotel in Mahipalpur. After she invited him, Kailash visited her at the hotel with his friend Wasim. The three drank alcohol and had dinner before going to her room. According to a report in Amar Ujala, Kailash allegedly forced himself on the woman against her will. When she protested and created a commotion, Kailash called Wasim into the room to calm her down.

The girl’s mother reported to the Sadar Bazar police station late on March 8 that her father had raped her 8-year-old daughter in Delhi’s Sadar Bazar. Locals identified the accused, a vegetable vendor, and handed him over to the authorities. The authorities arrested him on the same day.
