The police stated that the incident took place between 7 am and 11.25 am. At 11.25 am, the couple’s six-year-old son called his maternal grandmother, Rukmini, informing her that his mother was unresponsive and urging her to come quickly. Rukmini, who lived nearby, immediately rushed to their house. Using her spare key, she unlocked the door and entered.

Rukmini found Mamata unconscious on the sofa with blood oozing from her nose and scratch marks on her face, while she discovered Suresh dead in another room. Police suspect that Suresh strangled Mamata with a bedsheet or pillow before ending his own life. They revealed that the couple had been married for 14 years and had recently moved into a rented home after living with Suresh’s parents in Bhadravathi, Shivamogga. Rukmini said that Suresh was unemployed, frequently argued with Mamata, and refused to pay rent despite repeated advice from elders to change his ways.
