40 Kg of Expired Chillies Seized, Bengaluru Club Kitchen Shut After Food Safety Raid

A food safety inspection has led authorities to shut the kitchen of a popular private club in Bengaluru. Officials seized 40 kg of expired chillies and several other food products during the raid. The inspection took place on Thursday under the direction of Health Minister UT Khader. Authorities also found poor hygiene in areas used for preparing and storing food.

Expired Ingredients Found During Inspection

Food safety officials discovered expired chillies that the club allegedly kept for food preparation. Inspectors also found 5 kg of breadcrumbs and 2 kg of Sajeera products with improper labelling. Officials said these violations breached prescribed FSSAI requirements. The inspection team also detected unauthorised or prohibited artificial colours in certain food products. The department reported several problems with the club’s food storage and handling practices. Inspectors allegedly found vegetarian and non-vegetarian products stored together. They also observed unhygienic conditions across the kitchen and storage areas. Authorities said the club failed to follow mandatory food safety procedures.

Food Safety and Drug Administration Commissioner Srinivas K said officials seized expired products during the inspection. Considering the seriousness of the violations, authorities ordered the club kitchen to remain closed. The department has also initiated legal proceedings over the alleged food safety violations. The Food Safety and Drug Administration said it will continue inspections across Bengaluru. Officials warned food businesses that authorities will take strict legal action against establishments that violate hygiene and food safety standards. The latest raid highlights the department’s ongoing efforts to improve food safety compliance across eateries and commercial kitchens.
