At Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital, air hostess on ventilator sexually assaulted: ‘2 nurses were in the room’

A 46-year-old air hostess alleged that a staff member sexually assaulted her while she was on a ventilator in the ICU at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. She claimed that two nurses were in the room during the incident but did not take any action. Police said the woman, a West Bengal resident, came to the city for a workshop and admitted herself to the hospital after falling ill following a swim in the pool at her hotel.

Air Hostess Alleges Assault at Medanta During ICU Stay

Investigators said the woman arrived in Gurugram on March 31 to attend a training programme organized by an airline operator in Darbaripur, Sector 75. She became ill and admitted herself to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on April 5. In her complaint, she stated that the hospital discharged her this Sunday. “On April 6, while I was on a ventilator, some hospital staff sexually assaulted me,” she alleged.

Unable to Resist, Air Hostess Reports ICU Assault After Discharge

According to the FIR cited, the woman couldn’t speak or resist the man’s advances due to her weakened condition. Two nurses were in the room but did not intervene. After doctors discharged her from the hospital on April 13, the air hostess informed her husband about the incident and filed a complaint at Sadar police station. The police registered a case for molestation and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita the following day.

Medanta Responds, Says Cooperating Fully with Investigation

Medanta stated that it is aware of the patient’s complaint and is fully cooperating with the investigation by the relevant authorities. The hospital added that, so far, no allegations have been substantiated, and it has handed over all relevant documents, including CCTV footage from the time in question, to the police.Deputy commissioner of police (East) Gaurav said a special investigation team led by Sadar ACP Yashwant has been constituted given the seriousness of the allegations.
