The Supreme Court granted bail on Wednesday to Pradeep Sharma, a former Mumbai Police officer and encounter specialist who arrested in connection with the Antilia bomb scare case and the killing of businessman Mansukh Hiran. “We have allowed the appeal and granted bail,” said the bench led by Justice A. S. Bopanna.

Notably, the Supreme Court’s decision came after Sharma appealed the Bombay High Court’s refusal to grant him bail in January of this year.
The case began on February 25, 2021, with the discovery of an explosive-laden Scorpio car and a threat letter near billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s residence, Antilia. On March 4, 2021, the body of Hiran, the car’s owner, was discover in Thane Creek.

The case was take up by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Sharma was arrest along with nine others, including former Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze, in April 2021. Sharma was accuse of assisting Vaze in destroying the case and hatching a plot to assassinate Hiran.
A special NIA court denied Sharma’s bail request in February 2022. It claimed that the charges against him in the chargesheet were limit to Hiran’s murder conspiracy. Sharma granted three weeks’ interim bail by a Supreme Court vacation bench in June of this year on the grounds of his ailing wife. In July, it was extend for two weeks.
