Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the Bharatpol portal, a new initiative by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), designed to facilitate seamless communication and real-time information sharing between state police, central law enforcement agencies, and Interpol. This platform will provide faster access to international police assistance, particularly in tackling cross-border crimes.
Addressing the Need for a Unified Platform
The need for an integrated and rapid response system arose due to the rise of transnational crimes such as cyber-crime, financial fraud, human trafficking, drug trafficking, and organized crime. The Bharatpol portal aims to streamline information sharing and collaboration between Indian law enforcement and international police agencies, thus accelerating criminal investigations.

Streamlining Communication Across Agencies
Currently, communications between the CBI, Interpol Liaison Officers (ILOs), and Unit Officers (UOs) at state and central levels depend on traditional methods such as letters, emails, and faxes. The Bharatpol portal will bring all stakeholders together on a single platform, eliminating delays and simplifying the request process for international assistance. The portal will facilitate the issuance of Red Notices and other Interpol notices, enabling more effective international cooperation.
Impact on Crime Investigations and Law Enforcement
The Bharatpol portal is expected to be a transformative tool for field-level officers. By providing easier and faster access to international assistance, it will strengthen India’s ability to combat transnational crimes, making the law enforcement process more efficient and dynamic. The CBI’s efforts in creating this platform aim to ensure timely and effective responses to global crime challenges.
Success in Criminal Extraditions Through Interpol
Since its inception in 2021, the efforts of Indian authorities have resulted in the return of over 100 wanted criminals, with 26 fugitives returned to India in 2024 alone. The Bharatpol portal is anticipated to increase the number of criminals apprehended by cutting down on processing delays.
Recognition of CBI Officers
In addition to the launch of the Bharatpol portal, Home Minister Amit Shah will present prestigious awards to 35 CBI officers and officials during the event. These individuals have been recognized for their distinguished service and excellence in investigation, as awarded by the President’s Police Medals and the Union Home Minister’s Medal.
