While recording a video “for fun” during a zipline ride, Ahmedabad tourist Rushi Bhatt inadvertently captured the shootout at Baisaran valley in Pahalgam on April 22. The video, which emerged on Monday, features sounds believed to be gunshots in the background. As Bhatt glides along the zipline, the footage shows people running across the scenic ground, with at least one individual collapsing.

Pahalgam Visit of Ahmedabad Tourist Cut Short After Attack
Rushi Bhatt, a 36-year-old resident of Paldi in Ahmedabad, shared his experience. “As you can see in the video, I shot it for fun. I did not even know that firing was happening. But the attack got captured in my video,” he said. Bhatt, who runs an event and wedding management business, had planned a family vacation to Kashmir from April 16 to 27. However, he cut the trip short after terrorists killed 26 people. He traveled with his wife Bhakti (35) and son Preet (11).
Bhatt recalled realizing a terrorist attack was underway about 20 seconds into the ride when he noticed 4–5 injured people below. “During the first 2–3 firings, I couldn’t figure out that it was a terror attack. But when the firings grew more frequent and I saw 2–3 people fall, I realized it was a terrorist attack,” he said. Bhatt, who recorded the ride using his mobile phone and a selfie stick, stopped filming, unbuckled his seatbelt, and jumped off before reaching the end of the ride as his wife and son shouted at him to stop recording.

Family Escapes Pahalgam Attack, Returns to Ahmedabad Safely
Bhatt said that his wife told him terrorists had killed two people from two different families after asking about their religion, and he himself saw the two bodies. While escaping, Bhatt and his family crouched on the ground whenever the firing resumed and ran when it stopped, until Army personnel arrived and ensured their safety. After the attack, they left Pahalgam, returned to Srinagar, and flew back to Ahmedabad on April 23.
After checking the video on his phone on April 23, Bhatt shared it with a defence officer in Ahmedabad. “He conducted inquiries at his end and, after three days, allowed me to share the video with the media and others,” Bhatt said. He also mentioned that no security agency has yet recorded his statement regarding the incident.
